Farmington Public Schools Farmington, NM, Silvana Watson is a Special Education Coordinator in the Farmington, New Mexico Schools. Her primary role there is to facilitate inclusion of students with disabilities into regular classrooms. She is completiing her PH.D. in special Education with an emphasis in learning disabilities and cultural diversity.
Albuquerque Public Schools Albuquerque, N.M., Maureen Murphy is a speech-language pathologist employed by Educational Assessment Systems, Incorporated. She works in the elementary school described in this article and was responsible for collection of interview data that documented the school's restructuring. —Speech-language pathologists, special educators, and regular educators are being faced with determining how to fully include students with disabilities within regular education classrooms. This article reviews the reasons behind the full inclusion movement, concerns that have been raised about full inclusion, and what elements are necessary to implement successful inclusion programs. In addition, the authors describe the efforts of an elementary school staff to implement inclusive education for students from culturally/linguistically diverse backgrounds and students with learning disabilities.
