Hugh W. Catts

Alan G. Kamhi

Because many developmental reading disabilities are language-based, speech -language pathologists can make important contributions to the identification, assessment and remediation of reading and writing disorders. This paper provides specific suggestions of how speech-language pathologists can use their language expertise in the intervention of reading disabilities. Reading intervention strategies appropriate for use in individual therapy with language impaired children are discussed. The need for collaboration with classroom teachers and learning disabilities specialists is also addressed.
